Prof Gallitto champions crowned

The Prof Gallitto girls basketball program held its championship games recently.
In the grades 3 - 5 division, the tournament champion was the team sponsored by Minuteman Press.
The team sponsored by Perceptions Photography was runner-up.
In the grades 6 - 8 division, the tournament champion was the team sponsored by Illiano's Restaurant on Washington St. Second place went to the team sponsored by Mobile 1 Lube Express on Washington and Newfield Streets.
The coaches for the Minuteman Press team arranged to have the players wear commemorative wrist bands and t-shirts for the championship game in memory of a former player, Tanaja Green, who passed away from cancer at the age of 26.
On February 25, the league presented a lifetime achievement plaque to Eddie Heyward White. For more than two decades he has been a coach, mentor, and referee for the youth of Middletown, both girls and boys.
FITZPATRICK EARNS HONOR
Maura Fitzpatrick, a junior guard at Marist who played at Mercy, was named Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference Defensive Player of the Year Friday.
Fitzpatrick led the MAAC in minutes played, led Marist in steals (36) and was a major contributor for the Red Foxes’ defense, which led the MAAC in field goal percentage defense (37.1-percent). She also had a team-leading 11 blocks.
SOFTBALL MEETING
The Middletown Men’s Softball League will hold its informational meeting for the 2018 season on March 10 at noon at Sliders Banquet Room on South Main Street.
Any teams/players of all skill levels are invited to attend an information meeting. The season is expected to start either April 23 or 30 based on weather and field conditions. For more information log on to Middletown softball web page or email middletownscores@yahoo.com
