New Haven men charged in connection with ‘shots fired’

Police arrested two New Haven men in connection with a recent incident of shots fired on Newhall Street.

Police learned of the incident in a report of “shots fired,” at about 5:45 p.m Feb. 18 in the area of Morse and Newhall streets, according to a police press release.

An investigat­ion revealed that several individual­s were shopping in the area of 1245 Dixwell Ave. when one of them got into a verbal altercatio­n with an man later identified as Kenneth Reddick. Reddick followed the individual­s out of the store, police said.

The individual­s entered a motor vehicle and proceeded toward Dixwell Avenue with Reddick following them, according to police.

Reddick “pulled alongside their vehicle” while they were traveling on Newhall Street and he fired several shots at them, police said. No injuries were reported.

On Feb. 28, Reddick spoke with detectives at police headquarte­rs about the shooting. Moments later detectives Joseph Liguori and Brian Stewart observed Reddick’s vehicle parked in the area of Dixwell and Washington avenues. As they approched the vehicle they smelled burning marijuana emanating from inside. A search of the vehicle revealed a stolen 9mm handgun. The driver, Patrick Jones, was arrested and taken to police headquarte­rs, the release stated.

Reddick, 22, of 99 Edgewood Ave., Apt. 20, New Haven, is charged with criminal possession of a handgun and theft of a firearm, following the discovery of the firearm in his vehicle. He was held in lieu of $100,000 bail . Reddick was further charged in the Feb. 18 shooting with illegal discharge of a firearm, criminal possession of a firearm, carrying a pistol without a permit, risk of injury to a child and firstdegre­e threatenin­g. He was detained on an additional $150,000 bail and is scheduled to appear in court March 14.

Jones, 23, of 46 Emerson St., New Haven, is charged with criminal possession of a firearm, theft of a firearm and carrying a pistol without a permit. He was released on a $5,000 bond. Jones also is expected to appear in court March 14.
