Stricter gun laws must be enacted

-

I recently spoke to the Cromwell Town Council about an issue close to my heart — gun violence. After the school tragedy in Florida and the tragedy of Sandy Hook Elementary School, it’s clear that gun violence is a growing epidemic in our society. It t has to stop once and for all.

I commend all the first responders for their actions, but the problem is: Hare we going to fix this growing epidemic? Every day, I think of the kids and teachers at the Florida school and Sandy Hook Elementary School and wonder did this really happen? But it did. And it broke my heart.

Those who lost their lives don’t have voices to help advocate for them and for what’s right. I will be that voice for the victims and their families and will also advocate for their rights and their needs. We need learn the warning signs of gun violence. Lives were lost because of these senseless acts of violence.

We need to take safety precautions for our schools and our community. We need stronger police presence and patrols in these areas and our schools because a threat can happen at any moment.

We need to make sure that people know that safety is a Number 1 priority for our schools, children, educators and all the people that live in the community. Children deserves to feel safe and to be safe when they go off to school every day. Let’s get stricter gun control laws for the state of Connecticut and nationwide.
