Wilbur Cross HOF dinner to be held April 12

Seven people and one team will be inducted into the 2018 Wilbur Cross Athletic Hall of Fame April 12 at the Country House on Foxon Road.

The inductees are: Terri Claxton (1985), a former basketball standout who went on to win a national championsh­ip at Old Dominion; Micky Heard & Roland Jones (1972), both former basketball standouts; Wayne Allen (1982), track and field; George Providence (1978), football ; Michael J. Zuccarelli Jr. (1966), hockey; Junie Vuolo, assistant football coach; and the school’s 1994 indoor & outdoor State Open champions.

Cocktails begin at 6 p.m. with dinner and presentati­on of awards to follow starting at 7 p.m. Tickets are $60 per person. You can purchase tickets at the Wilbur Cross High main office. Ask for Lisa.

NEW HAVEN TAP-OFF CLUB BANQUET TUESDAY

The New Haven Tap-Off Club will be hosting the annual All-County and Scholar-Athlete Dinner on Tuesday at the Villa Bianca in Seymour.

Jeff DeMaio of Guilford will be the Boys’ Basketball Coach of the Year recipient and Ron Picard of Sacred Heart High is the Girls’ Basketball Coach of the Year. Al Carfora of Internatio­nal Associatio­n of Approved Basketball Officials, Board 10 is the Nate Winnick Official of the Year recipient.

The Girls’ 2018 All-County Team includes: Ky’Jae Hargrove of Career; McKenzie Helms and Kylie Schlottman of East Haven; Makaela Johnson and Taniyah Thompson of Hamden; Gabby Egidio and Sara Wohlgemuth of Hand; Meah Austin and Aiyana Ward of Holy Cross; Cali Jolley of Law; Kailey Lipka of Lyman Hall; Mehgan DeVille and Isabella Santoro of Mercy; Karli Opalka of Pomperaug; and Savannah Marshall of Westbrook.

JCC CLASSIC

The 57th JCC Schoolboy/ Schoolgirl Classic will be held April 8 at the Cardinal Shehan Center in Bridgeport.

The girls game begins at 1 p.m., Connecticu­t East vs. West, followed by the boys game at 3, Connecticu­t vs. New Jersey. Tickets are $10 for both games.
