Marrero strikes out 10, leads Wilbur Cross to victory

Andrew Marrero picthed six innings and gave up one run on three hits and struck out 10 to lead the Wilbur Cross baseball team to a 3-2 SCC win over Branford in the season-opener for both teams.

Marrero, Damien Maniscalco and C.J. Miller each had a double and a run scored for the Governors.

Hand 12, East Haven 1 (6): Eddie Sweeney had three hits and three RBIs and Paul Gagliardi added three hits and two RBIs to lead the Tigers to their SCC win. Jordan Aceto had an RBI single for the Easties.

Westbrook 9, Griswold 8: Jake Marciniec hit a walk-off, three-run home run in the bottom of the seventh inning for Westbrook in a non-conference home win.

SOFTBALL

Lauralton Hall 14, Foran 2: Emma Larke had six strikeouts and allowed only two hits to lead the Crusaders to their SCC win.

BOYS LACROSSE

Old Saybrook 5, Griswold 2: Alem Tiden had two goals to lead the Rams to their non-league win. Keaton Roarick had eight saves for the Rams.

GIRLS LACROSSE

Morgan 15, Somers 13: Marianne Dalessio had five goals and an assist to lead the Huskies to their nonleague win. Brienna Bernier added four goals and Cassidy Shepard had five saves. Morgan outshot Somers 24-17.

Foran 13, West Haven 12: Sam O’Neill had eight goals to lead the Lions to their SCC win in West Haven. Hailey McGinnis and Hayley Byers added two goals each and Shea Phelan had 13 saves for the Lions. Madisyn Crotta and Mackenzie Holy each had three goals and an assist for the Blue Devils.
