George Albert Atwood, 80, of Newport, ME, passed away January 30, 2018 at Sebasticoo­k Valley Hospital after a brief illness.

He was born to the late Edward Augustus Atwood and Viola Pearl Lewis in Saybrook, CT, on January 15, 1938. A native of Connecticu­t, he resided in the town of Deep River while raising his family. A longtime employee of Latham Movers, he was known as a hard working, friendly, humorous, kind hearted, and helpful gentle man who loved his children and grandchild­ren very much.

He was a member of the Kingdom Hall of Jehovah’s Witness in Pittsfield, ME.

George was predecease­d by his first wife Patricia Congdon Atwood and second wife Deborah Lee Atwood; brother Edward Atwood and sisters, Jeanette Cianci and Josephine DesJardins.

He is survived by two sisters; Sylvia Perkins and Barbara Thody and husband Fred of Maine; by five children, sons, George Atwood and wife Cheryl of Deep River, CT and William Atwood and wife Pamela of Westbrook, CT; daughters, Jennie Atwood of CT, Doreen Walls and husband Gibbs of Miami, OK and Theresa Willette and husband Michael of Claremore, OK; 15 grandchild­ren, Anthony Atwood, Amber Atwood Kenny, Kimberly Robinson, Heidi Atwood Reeves, Caity Atwood, William Atwood, David Jones, William Jones, Lynsey Wilkins, Andie Atwood, Casey Walls, Joshua Walls, Jesse Contreras, Brittany Hart and Kiersten Willette and 18 great-grandchild­ren.

A burial service will be held at Winthrop Cemetery on Saturday on April 14, 2018 at 3 p.m.
