No. 3 Hand tops No. 10 Amity, stays unbeaten

Eddie Sweeney delivered a two-run home run and an RBI single for the thirdranke­d Hand baseball team, which defeated No. 10 Amity 5-3 Saturday in an SCC game at Madison.

Phoenix Billings had three hits, including two doubles, and added two runs and Tom Hobin had an RBI double for the Tigers (8-0). Jake Balocca had two hits for Amity (5-3).

North Haven 7, East Haven 5: Andrew Laudano, Peyton Farina and Hunter Garthwait all had two hits apiece for North Haven (7-2) in an SCC win at East Haven. Luis Vega collected three hits and Nate Furino added two hits for the Yellow Jackets (5-4).

Notre Dane-West Haven 18, West Haven 3: Eddie Zanor had two hits and two RBIs for Notre Dame in this SCC city rivalry game at West Haven. Dennis Gamester had two hits and two RBIs for West Haven.

BOYS LACROSSE

Xavier 12, North Haven 11 (OT): Eric Fellenstei­n scored with 1:29 left in overtime for Xavier in an SCC win at Middletown.

Fellenstei­n and Frank Romeo both had four goals for the Falcons (4-1). Jack Broggi had four goals for the Indians (6-2).

Shelton 13, Norwalk 3: Nick Pavone had three goals and two assists for Shelton (4-3) in a non-conference home win. Norwalk dropped to 2-6.

Stratford 7, Foran 4: Gavin Scofield and Tyler Ciccia both scored twice for Stratford (1-6) in a nonconfere­nce home win. Foran dropped to 1-5.

GIRLS LACROSSE

Branford 6, Barlow 5: Sabrina Torcellini and Sophie Spencer both scored twice for Branford (9-0), which scored five times in the second half for a comefrom-behind victory in this non-conference home game.

Julia Shapiro scored twice for the Falcons (5-1).

Cheshire 18, South Windsor 7: Annie Eddy scored four times and added an assist for Cheshire (7-1) in a non-conference home win.

Hopkins 10, Gunnery 9: Libby Gardner had three goals for Hopkins (2-4) in the prep school win at Washington. Sydney Fydenkevez had a game-high six goals for Gunnery (4-2).

Stratford 9, Foran 8 (OT): Cora Martonak scored the game winner with 1:06 left in the overtime for Stratford (4-4) in a non-conference home win. Foran (2-6) came back from five goals down in the second half to tie it on a goal by Sam O’Neill with 1:43 left in regulation.
