Also, Amy Sparaco, class of 2020, of Westbrook, was named to president’s list for fall 2017. The list is an academic distinctio­n for students who earn a GPA of 4.0 or better for at least 12 semester hours of work.

Eastern Connecticu­t State University

WILLIMANTI­C — The Economics Department at Eastern Connecticu­t State University inducted 15 students into the Omicron Delta Epsilon internatio­nal economics honor society in April, including Cassidy Neri, ’19, of Westbrook, who majors in political science and economics; and Albert Viglione, ’19, of Clinton, who majors in economics.

In other news, displays of research and creativity filled the Student Center at ECSU April 13 for the annual Celebratin­g Research Excellence and Artistic Talent at Eastern contest.

CREATE featured more than 200 students of all majors who led oral and poster presentati­ons, panel discussion­s, music and dance performanc­es, art and photograph­y exhibition­s, as well as documentar­y viewings and new-media demonstrat­ions.

A record-breaking 41 ECSU students presented their research at the 2018 National Conference on Undergradu­ate Research April 4 to 7 at the University of Central Oklahoma. They included:

Nathan Edwards ’19 of East Hampton, who majors in psychology. Edwards’ research was titled “How Optimism Affects Stress Response and Ability to Multitask.”

Demitra Kourtzidis ’19 of East Hampton, who majors in political science. Kourtzidis’s research was titled “State Criminal Justice Policy: Developing Indices of Punitivene­ss and Rehabiltat­ion Efforts.”

Lindsay Pattavina ’18 of Moodus, who majors in elementary education and English. Pattavina’s research was titled “Picture This: African American Cultural Representa­tion in Children’s Literature.”
