‘Go Far, Go Fast’ at the fairgrounds
Race has distances for all abilities
DURHAM — This year’s Go Far Go Fast Road Race is beach party-themed event held over Memorial Day weekend.
The eighth annual run will take place May 26 at the Durham Fairgrounds. All ages are invited to the races, which include a tot race for ages 4 and under, a half-mile for ages 6 and under, one mile for children up to sixth grade, a two-mile for children up to sixth grade, and a 5K for grades seven through 12 and adults, according to a press release.
High school students are encouraged to race and mentor the youth runners.
Each finisher receives a T-shirt, finisher medal and other beach party swag. Winners in age categories will earn hand crafted trophies and best costumes will be awarded.
Go Far is a nonprofit organization whose mission is to provide a noncompetitive daily fitness and wellness program that encourages healthy exercise to children in Regional District 13, the towns of Durham and Middlefield, according to the release. The program now runs at elementary and middle schools (grades one through six).
In these schools, students run or walk laps and have their mileage recorded by a mentoring adult. Students are given small prizes (like Legos on a necklace or charms) every mile and a tee at 26.2 miles.
To register for the rainor-shine event, visit gofargofast.org. Those who sign up by May 18 are guaranteed a race shirt.
To volunteer or help sponsor the race, email gofarchildren@gmail.com. All proceeds go to organizing the race and Go Far programs at the schools.
