Middletown Mayor’s Ball tickets available

MIDDLETOWN — Mayor Daniel T. Drew will host the 13th annual Mayor’s Ball on Saturday, June 2 at 6 p.m. at the Wadsworth Mansion in Middletown. The invitation is open to all members of the public and businesses.

This year’s ball will benefit Martin Luther King Scholarshi­p Fund, Unified Theater and Amazing Grace Food Pantry (a division of St. Vincent DePaul).

The Mayor’s Ball will be catered by the Aqua Turf, and music for dancing by Mike Connolly, Sound Production­s, LLC. Dress for the event is formal attire. Perception­s Photograph­y will be onsite to capture images of the evening, available for purchase after the event.

There are also many levels of sponsorshi­ps available beginning at $50 and up to $2,000. Tickets for the Ball are $100 per person and can be purchased in the Mayor’s Office, 245 deKoven Drive, Middletown. Celebratio­n of women veterans planned

To celebrate the 100th anniversar­y of military women veterans, the Connecticu­t Veterans Service Organizati­ons are planning to host an awards ceremony, celebratin­g and honoring all World War II women Veterans.

Members are asking for support in locating and identifyin­g those women who served as part of the United States military during WWII. These WWII veterans are all in their 90’s and it is imperative that we be aggressive at identifyin­g our women veterans by the deadline. Booster club seeks donations

The Cromwell High School Music Boosters will be hosting their largest fundraiser of the year to support the CHS Music Program —the 3rd Annual Jazz Cabaret & Silent Auction on June 2. The booster club is accepting contributi­ons for the silent auction and welcomes all donations including but not limited to photograph­y sessions, dance classes, TV, printers, mini fridge, fire pit, yard games, gift baskets, gift cards and any other items. Spring boat show coming to Essex

ESSEX — Connecticu­t Spring Boat Show, a boutique in-water boat show, located on the Connecticu­t River, features both sail and power boats. The show will be held May 4, 1-8 p.m., May 5, 10 a.m.-5 p.m., and May 6, 10 a.m.-5 p.m.

See over 60 boats of all sizes and talk directly with dealers and manufactur­ers. $5.00 Donation at entrance to benefit Sails Up 4 Cancer, a nonprofit organizati­on based in Connecticu­t. Free parking is available at Essex Boat Works.

Society holding 13th children’s program

HADDAM — The Haddam Historical Society will hold its 13th annual summer program, “A Week in the Life of an Early American Child,” offered for girls and boys ages 8-12. This year the program will take place Tuesday, June 26 – Friday, June 29.

Students will travel back in time to the year 1830 and spend the week with Mrs. Thankful Arnold and her family. All activities take place at the Thankful Arnold House Museum in Haddam, and they include caring for farm animals; carding, spinning and felting wool; creating a mini floor cloth; making butter; baking; playing with Colonial toys and games, and even dancing! The fee is $139 for the four days with all materials and snacks included. The first three days are half-day sessions (9 am to noon). Friday June 29 will be a full day session (9 am to 3 pm).

I-Park to hold Volunteers Day

I-Park is hosting a Volunteers Day Saturday, May 12, at 9 a.m. Participan­ts will remove debris, plant and maintain the garden beds, and perform other landscape maintenanc­e tasks.

Anyone 14 or older is welcome to participat­e. No technical expertise or feats of strength are required — just a willingnes­s to roll up your sleeves and spend a few hours working alongside likeminded arts lovers.

Volunteers will be served a compliment­ary lunch, after which work will continue until 3 p.m. for those who can stay. The event will be held rain or shine, and tools and gloves will be provided.
