Burr District named school of the year
HADDAM — Regional 17’s Burr District Elementary School has been named The Connecticut Association of Schools Elementary School of the Year for 201819.
The Connecticut Association of Schools, which provides services to the state’s K-12 schools, in areas ranging from academics to athletics, bases the award on excellence in seven categories: instruction, curriculum, collaboration, culture and climate, professional learning culture, communication and assessment, according to a news release.
“This recognition is a direct result of the efforts of the principal and staff as they plan for the children who attend Burr,” CAS wrote in its selection letter.
“They noted the time set aside for intervention and small group learning and our maker space as great examples of personalized learning for the students,” RSD 17 staff said in the release. “After interviewing parents and staff, they found a culture of shared leadership, school-wide collaboration and strong pedagogical knowledge.”
The award is a “great honor that is reflective of the incredible staff and the supporting families that are within the Burr community,” Principal Eric Larson said in a prepared statement.
The Connecticut Association of Schools will honor staff and faculty at the May 15 meeting of the Regional School District 17 Board of Education at Burr District, 792 Killingworth Road, Higganum, at 7 p.m.
