The guest speaker at the Monday, May 7 meeting of the Connecticu­t Valley Camera Club (CVCC) will be the acclaimed profession­al photograph­er Peter Glass, who will give a presentati­on titled, “Taking Great Photos with Your Smartphone.” The meeting will be held at 7 p.m. at the Lymes’ Senior Center, 26 Town Woods Rd., Old Lyme, Conn. Middlesex Chapter #3394 AARP will hold its meeting on Tuesday, May 8 at 1:30 p.m. at the Middletown Senior Center on Durant St. Members are asked to bring non-perishable food items for the Amazing Grace Food Pantry. Knitters are asked to bring their completed squares for the lap robes and afghans. Members planning to attend the June 12 Strawberry Shortcake Festival must register at this meeting.

Tri-Town Youth Services’ Substance Abuse Prevention Coalition invites residents to its annual Community Breakfast & Town Hall Meeting on May 9, 8-10 a.m., at Camp Hazen YMCA in Chester. Come participat­e in an important conversati­on about opioid use in the community. TAI CHI:

Tai Chi classes will be held at the Henry Cater Hull Library, Clinton, twice a week at 9:30 a.m. on May 9. Intermedia­te Level guests will meet on Wednesdays and Beginner Level guests will meet on Fridays. This meditation in motion led by instructor Kim Langley teaches the Yang Style Short Form of Tai Chi which provides improved strength, balance, and relaxation. Chairs are available for seated exercises. Wear comfortabl­e clothing. No class July 4.

Perennials are from club members’ gardens and offer many varieties to choose from as well as hanging baskets, herbs, terrariums and other plant items for Mother’s Day gifts. Sunday, May 13 SHAD MUSEUM:

The Haddam Shad Museum will be open on Sundays from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. until June 11. The museum displays the history of shad on the Connecticu­t River since Colonial days.
