CAMERA CLUB MEETING:

The guest speaker at the Monday, May 7 meeting of the Connecticut Valley Camera Club (CVCC) will be the acclaimed professional photographer Peter Glass, who will give a presentation titled, “Taking Great Photos with Your Smartphone.” The meeting will be held at 7 p.m. at the Lymes’ Senior Center, 26 Town Woods Rd., Old Lyme, Conn. Middlesex Chapter #3394 AARP will hold its meeting on Tuesday, May 8 at 1:30 p.m. at the Middletown Senior Center on Durant St. Members are asked to bring non-perishable food items for the Amazing Grace Food Pantry. Knitters are asked to bring their completed squares for the lap robes and afghans. Members planning to attend the June 12 Strawberry Shortcake Festival must register at this meeting.

COMMUNITY BREAKFAST:

Tri-Town Youth Services’ Substance Abuse Prevention Coalition invites residents to its annual Community Breakfast & Town Hall Meeting on May 9, 8-10 a.m., at Camp Hazen YMCA in Chester. Come participate in an important conversation about opioid use in the community. Local police will share updates; speaker Taylor Quijano from the Alliance for Prevention & Wellness will present “Opioids and Naloxone: What Community Members Need to Know.” Learn, share concerns and talk with neighbors about how you can be an agent of positive change. BALD EAGLES IN CT:

Join us at Henry Carter Hull Library on May 9 at 6 p.m. for a presentation by Richard Taylor, Master Wildlife Conservationist from the CT DEEP Wildlife Team, will present a program on the history, range, habitat, diet, nesting, breeding and recovery of Bald Eagles in Connecticut, May 9, 6 p.m. at the Henry Carter Hull Library, Clinton. TAI CHI:

Tai Chi classes will be held at the Henry Cater Hull Library, Clinton, twice a week at 9:30 a.m. on May 9. Intermediate Level guests will meet on Wednesdays and Beginner Level guests will meet on Fridays. This meditation in motion led by instructor Kim Langley teaches the Yang Style Short Form of Tai Chi which provides improved strength, balance, and relaxation. Chairs are available for seated exercises. Wear comfortable clothing. No class July 4.

PLANT SALE:

The Killingworth Evergreen Garden Club will hold its annual plant sale on Saturday, May 12, 8:30 a.m.-2:30 p.m. at the Parmelee Farm located at 465 Route 81, Killingworth. Perennials are from club members’ gardens and offer many varieties to choose from as well as hanging baskets, herbs, terrariums and other plant items for Mother’s Day gifts. Members will be on hand to assist with purchases. Proceeds benefit the Evergreen Garden Club Scholarship Fund and town gardens.

The Haddam Shad Museum will be open on Sundays from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. until June 11. The museum displays the history of shad on the Connecticut River since Colonial days.
