Steinhauser earns Dems endorsement for 32nd
PORTLAND — Local resident Laurel Steinhauser received the unanimous endorsement of the Democratic Convention for the 32nd State House District Wednesday evening.
“While I have only been in the race for a few weeks, I have received incredible support from the people of Cromwell and Portland who are ready for real change in Hartford. I am honored to earn the unanimous support of the Democratic delegates this evening, and I look forward to earning the support of every voter, regardless of party, throughout the 32nd District,” Steinhauser said in a prepared statement.
The seat, which represents residents of Cromwell and Portland, is occupied by four-term Republican state Rep. Christie Carpino, who is running for re-election.
Thirteen delegates, eight from Cromwell and five from Portland, gathered at the Portland Senior Center to nominate a candidate for state representative. Steinhauser received their unanimous support, the release continued.
“I entered this race because it shouldn’t be so difficult to put your kids through college or to retire comfortably,” she said in the statement. “And no one should be forced to go into debt because of medical expenses or be forced to choose between paying for their medication or paying their mortgage.
“I want to go to Hartford to make life easier for the people of Connecticut.”
“Laurel will work tirelessly to bring economic security to our communities,” Cromwell resident Gaia McDermott, who nominated Steinhauser said in the release. “She is giving voice to the needs and concerns of working families who need a strong advocate at the Capitol.”
“Laurel will fight to ensure everyone in our district earns a living wage and has quality health care,” Portland resident Erin Livensparger, who seconded Laurel’s nomination, said. “As a mom of three young kids, Laurel truly understands the needs of Connecticut families, and no one will work harder on their behalf.”
Steinhauser has been meeting with voters in both Cromwell and Portland. She has launched a campaign website: laurelforstaterep.com and can be found on Facebook at Laurel For State Rep.
