Essex Library Friends to hold garden tour

-

ESSEX — Friends of the Essex Library will sponsor a garden tour on Saturday, June 9, that will feature seven private gardens in Essex. Some are in the heart of Essex Village while others are hidden along lanes most visitors never see. While exploring, guests will find a garden with European flavor, a hillside filled with native plants, a Japanese bonsai garden, aeroponically grown vegetables and views of the Connecticut River. For many, the strolls may be enhanced by the opportunity to learn about various plants, for most of the garden owners will be on hand to point out specific features, offer gardening tips and answer questions.

Visitors will have an opportunity during the day to watch two design demonstrations, including the creation of an edible arrangement. These demonstrations will be located in the library program room in the afternoon. While in the village, visitors will see examples of early colonial and federal architecture among a unique blend of private residences, antique shops, specialty boutiques, an historic inn and marinas. Several restaurants are within walking distance of the gardens.

Tickets are $35 the day of the event. Cash, checks, Visa or Master Card will be accepted, although cash or checks are preferred.

On display in the library will be an assortment of wonderful items that every gardener would like to take home. These items can be won by purchasing chance tickets. The winning tickets will be drawn at 3pm. Winners do not have to be present for the drawing and will be notified by phone.

The tour will take place rain or shine. For more information, 860767-1560. All proceeds will benefit Friends of the Essex Library.
