Clinton Farmers Market has new home

CLINTON — The Clinton Farmer’s Market began for the season on June 7, and continues weekly through October at its new home on the grounds of the historic Adam Stanton House & General Store Museum, located at 63 East Main Street in the heart of downtown Clinton.

The outdoor market will be set up in the spacious backyard of the historic property and open Thursdays from 3:30 to 6:30 p.m.

Hosting the market, the Adam Stanton House returns to its roots, as it was one of early Clinton's first stores. The General Store was operated by the Stantons throughout the 1800s, offering a wide array of dry goods from baskets to salt to tools and tea.

Shoppers will find fresh Connecticut fruits, vegetables, flowers, plants, local crafts and products. We are still actively seeking CT farmers, fishermen, dairy farmers, bee keepers, flower gardeners, artists, crafts people and rotating nonprofits. Unique to the Stanton House Farmer's Market is the provision of free rotating spaces for local non-profits and Clinton children to sell their wares, from homemade crafts to iced tea and lemonade.

“The Adam Stanton House Board of Directors is very excited to be able to offer this farmer's market to Clinton and its people who have been so supportive of its efforts to revitalize this historic home and museum. It may start off slowly but will build over early summer when more produce is available,” said organizer and Adam Stanton House Board president Pat Lindahl. “We wanted to hold the Market on Thursdays so shoppers could walk a few steps down the street and enjoy the Thursday night concerts at the Pierson School gazebo.”

Tours will be offered of the Stanton House Museum during the hours of the Farmer's Market, depending on the availability of docents.

The Adam Stanton House is incorporated as a nonprofit house museum featuring 18th and 19th century clothing, furnishings, documents, and store inventory all belonging to the original Stanton family. Built by entrepreneur Adam Stanton in 1791, the house was left in trust by his heirs in 1916, to become a house museum. It has been open to the public ever since.
