MIDDLETOWN — Two city men were arrested this week after they allegedly caused a ruckus at a South Main Street bar and refused to pay their $25 bill, according to police.

City police were called to Matty’s Next Door on South Main Street Monday following a disturbance that allegedly involved two “intoxicated” customers: Wayne Stasiewski, 61, of Maple Place and Antonio D. Hughes, 33, of Burgundy Hill Lane.

Officers interviewed the bartender, who said Stasiewski and Hughes had wrestled, yelled, and called another employee vile names during the evening, forcing some patrons to leave the restaurant, according to the report.

When the server presented them with a $25.44 bill, Stasiewski said he wasn’t paying and refused to give his first name, according to police. Hughes, who said he ordered two drinks and two pieces of pizza, said he thought Stasiewski was paying because he had no money, the report said.

Authorities said they later discovered Stasiewski had more than $30 in his wallet.

Stasiewski briefly fought arrest, according to the report.

Both men are charged with sixth-degree larceny and breach of peace. Stasiewski, who was additionally charged with interfering with an officer, was released on a $1,500 bond, and Hughes was released on a promise to appear in court.

Both are due back in court Wednesday.
