Bysiewicz approved for public financing
MIDDLETOWN — The State Election Enforcement Commission approved a $406,275 grant to Susan Bysiewicz, the party-endorsed Democrat running for lieutenant governor.
After receiving donations from more than 1,000 people from more than 150 cities and towns statewide, Bysiewicz met the threshold June 19 to qualify for the maximum Citizens’ Election Program grant, according to a press release. She was the first Democrat running for lieutenant governor to meet the eligibility threshold for public funds, raising the money necessary to qualify in three weeks, the statement said.
“This is great news, and I’m extremely grateful for the statewide support that my campaign continues to receive. I truly believe that our state is at a crossroads and that the next lieutenant governor will help determine whether we have an economy that works for everyone. As your next lieutenant governor, I will work to create and bring good-paying jobs to Connecticut, improve our state’s infrastructure, ensure equal pay for equal work, and expand access to higher education,” Bysiewicz said in the press release
The qualification threshold for a lieutenant governor candidate to receive the full CEP grant is a minimum of $76,600 in individual contributions — of which a minimum of $68,900 must be from instate contributors — in increments of $5 to $100.
