MERIDEN — Mary Daugherty Abrams, endorsed Democratic candidate for state Senate, has earned the support of all Democratic Town Committee in the 13th Senate District.

The seat is now held by Sen. Len Suzio, RMeriden, who is running for re-election.

“I could no longer stand by while our most vulnerable populations continue to be at increased risk,” said Abrams. “We need a state senator who will fight for women’s rights, access to health care, and work to end inhumane immigration policies,” she said in a press release.

In May, Abrams received the endorsement of the delegation for the 13th District, and, in June, all four Democratic town committees: Middletown, Meriden, Cheshire and Middlefield, according to the release.

Abrams will face Meriden Democrat Alex Tiktinsky in the Aug. 14 Democratic primary election.

“The 13th District deserves a senator that accurately represents the views of its residents on issues such as health care, workers’ rights and the environment,” Millie Torres-Ferguson, chairwoman of the Meriden Democratic Town Committee, said in the statement.

“There is no more pivotal and critical state senate seat that we change this year than the 13th Senate District,” Middletown Democratic Town Committee Chairman, Robert Blanchard said in the release. “As we have learned over the last several weeks, elections have consequences. Mary Abrams will be a strong, vocal advocate for all residents of the 13th senate district,” Blanchard said.

Abrams has also received the endorsements of the Working Families Party, Connecticut ALF-CIO, CSEA SEIU, and the political action organization Politica, according to the statement. She is an educator, wife, mother and grandmother who has lived in the 13th District for most of her life. Abrams is a graduate of Maloney High School and Southern Connecticut State University.
