Middlesex Chamber set to host open house for co-working space
MIDDLETOWN — The Middlesex County Chamber of Commerce has launched MEWS+, a co-working environment for business professionals seeking office space, at its office on Main Street.
The chamber recently converted the second floor of its downtown facility into a co-working space for use by Middlesex County’s entrepreneur community. The goal is to turn the MEWS+ into an area to start a new business or grow an existing company, according to a news release.
“The MEWS+ represents the chamber’s effort to develop an innovation ecosystem in Middletown, with the larger goal of developing an innovation economy in Middlesex County,” Chamber Vice President and MEWS+ coordinator Jeff Pugliese said in a prepared statement.
The initiative provides individuals a place to work as well as a collaborative working environment. It is intended to attract a creative class of developers, designers, strategists, artisans, writers, inventors, engineers and professional office nomads, the release said. MEWS+ is also designed to be a resource for freelancers, startups and small businesses, along the Wesleyan University community.
“We are very excited about the MEWS+ and its potential. This innovation-focused initiative would not be possible without our founding MEWS+ sponsors,” Chamber President Larry McHugh said of Wesleyan University, Liberty Bank, Middlesex Hospital and the city of Middletown.
MEWS+ space includes more than 600 square feet of dedicated co-working space, shared work stations and collaboration tables, high-speed wifi, access to the chamber conference space with Smart TV, pitch nights, entrepreneurial peer networking, business mentoring and more, according to the chamber. MEWS+ will also develop a series of meet-ups in Middletown to attract businesses and entrepreneurs, the release said.
MEWS+ is now accepting membership applications. For information, visit themewsplus.co, and middlesexchamber.com.
An open house will be held Monday from 5 to 8 p.m. at the chamber’s office at 393 Main St. For information, contact Pugliese at 860-347-6924 or jeffrey@middlesexchamber.com.
