Rep. Lesser looks out for seniors, teachers

As a senior citizen, my choice of Democratic candidate for state Senate is clearly Matt Lesser.

The AARP gave Matt Lesser their Legislative Achievement Award this year for taking on special interests to lower electricity rates.

He led the fight to save the Medicare Savings Program, whereas Mr. Guerrera actually voted to gut it.

Matt Lesser took on Wall Street to protect teachers’ retirement accounts.

On these and many other issues, Matt Lesser has my full support. I hope other seniors will support him too, and vote for him in Tuesday’s primary.

Choose Abrams for 13th Senate District at primary

I’m writing to encourage registered Democrats in the 13th state Senate District, which includes the South Farms and Wesleyan Hills portions of Middletown, as well as parts of Meriden and Cheshire, to vote for Mary Abrams in the primary Tuesday.

Mary is not your typical aspiring or career politician. In addition to being a mother and a grandmother, she worked as a special education teacher for 25 years and then in school administration for another 10.

First, I appreciate the work ethic and dedication that shows.

Second, I appreciate that she can bring firsthand knowledge of the needs of the middle-class worker, women, parents, children and retired folks to the state Senate.

Third, I know her experience as director of education and assistant principal will help her work with the variety of stakeholders she’ll encounter in the Senate.

Most importantly to me, Mary is running for office not to feed her ego, but out of a desire to serve the community in which she was raised and in which she raised her children.

I hope you will visit AbramsforStateSenate.com to learn about where she stands on the issues, and then I hope you’ll vote for Abrams this Tuesday.

Rep. Lesser an exceptional legislator

I know Matt Lesser, and I can honestly say that nobody works harder for Middletown. As a councilman, I have had firsthand experience with Matt’s exceptional work for our city.

He is a good man with strong values, dedicated to the community. This year, as the state faced another difficult budget, Matt was able to increase funding for our city by almost $5.8 million — without raising taxes one penny.

For those of us on the council, that was a godsend.

As an educator, I know that Matt is committed to young people. I’ve seen Matt’s work firsthand. Matt took on Wall Street to protect teachers’ retirement accounts. He opposed the teacher tax. He's working to lower electric rates — and he’s working to help us keep property taxes under control.

Matt’s the only candidate who opposed cuts to the Medicare Savings Program from the very beginning. He’s in touch with the community and he’s someone we can count on.

Matt Lesser is an exceptional legislator.

Gene P. Nocera, Middletown Common Councilman
