Hamden has put bikers at serious risk

-

To the editor,

Hamden has put in a number of cement ovals in the middle of Ridge Road. I am assuming someone thought that the cement ovals were a good idea and that they would slow traffic down. In fact, all they do is cause cars to go into the biking lanes that have been marked out on Ridge Road for bikers, and that is extremely dangerous for anyone on a bike in that section of Ridge Road.

I live on Ridge Road and I never thought there was a need to slow down traffic — so I did not understand the use of Hamden town funds to do this — but on top of spending money where it appears to have not been necessary, the ramifications of what they have done is to now make the street extremely dangerous for anyone on a bicycle.

The biking community worked long and hard to get safe biking lanes on roads. By making cars go into the biking lanes, the town has put bikers at serious risk as well as spending town money unnecessarily. We have lived on Ridge Road for over 30 years and have never seen the necessity of slowing traffic down.

By the way — Ridge Road needs repaving — the potholes are many and huge. If only the money had been spent for this purpose. Nancy Alderman North Haven

Herbst is thoughtful politician that has integrity

To the editor,

After numerous years of watching Connecticut erode into a state that does not inspire entrepreneurship but cowers to special interest groups and makes decisions that persuade people to leave our state for less taxed areas of the country, I finally found a gubernatorial candidate that represents smart, fair and reasonable ideas that will change the death spiral of Connecticut — that candidate is Tim Herbst. He is a thoughtful politician that I believe has integrity.

Tim was raised in Trumbull, graduated from Trumbull High School, Trinity College and then went on to law school. His ideas on reducing the income tax are realistic; he wants to restructure the DMV and streamline government agencies along with dealing with the untenable state pension liability; he balanced budgets in Trumbull and increased its bond rating. Connecticut desperately needs to do both. Tim wants to promote law and order and will reinvigorate our state police by increasing their ranks back to full strength from its over 33% decrease by Malloy. He’s not afraid to stand up for his beliefs and he will not vacillate from his commitments for political expedience. He has been a lifelong Republican, promotes Republican values and was never a Democrat for any length of time or for any reason. He has experience, youth, energy, good health and a long term vision. I have spoken with each and every candidate at length about their visions for Connecticut. I believe Tim is our state’s best chance for overall success and he will bring back to our state credibility instead of being mocked by the rest of the nation.

Please vote for Tim Herbst on August 14 to represent the Republican party as our choice for governor. Stephen Falcigno Sr. Woodbridge Republican Town Chairman
