CFA Society Hartford raises $15K between rainstorms
Connection offers behavioral health, family support, more
MIDDLETOWN — In between thunderstorms and rain showers, 785 runners from over 50 corporate teams raced through the city Aug. 2 to give back to a local organization at the 2018 CFA Society Hartford Corporate 5K.
The race got under way at Bushnell Park, where race participants were guided on a course near the state Capitol.
CFA Society Hartford, the title sponsor of the race for the fourth consecutive year, raised over $15,000 for The Connection, a Middletown nonprofit that helps people build safe, healthy and caring communities, according to a news release.
The Connection offers behavioral health, family support and community justice programs to reunite families, break the generational cycles of abuse and neglect and assist with mental illness and addiction issues, according to its mission.
“We set a record for donations this year. We’ve been referring to it as an outpouring of support from the racers who braved the weather to help members of their community,” Raymond Bovich, past president and race committee chair at the CFA Society joked in a prepared statement.
“Our CFA Hartford chapter had a 15runner team and 20 race day volunteers.”
Bovich, a passionate runner, worked with race organizer JB Sports, which coordinates some of New England’s top running events, to offer a fun experience for everyone, in spite of the rain, the release said.
“We are grateful to the CFA Society Hartford for this generous contribution that will make a significant difference for those we serve with our unique solutions to the problems of homelessness, mental illness, substance use and community justice rehabilitation,” Beth Connor, chief strategy officer at The Connection, said in the release.
