Wright-Pierce given high ranking
MIDDLETOWN — WrightPierce, an employee-owned, multidisciplinary environmental engineering firm, has been recognized again this year by Engineering News Record as one of the “Top 200” Environmental Firms in the country, accoding to a press release. ENR, a trade publication of the architecture, engineering and construction industry, compiles and publishes annual rankings of engineering and construction firms in the US.
In the Top 200 Environmental Firms for the past nine years, Wright-Pierce’s ranking on the 2018 list rose based on the company’s continued growth.
According to John Braccio, Wright-Pierce President and CEO, reflects on the past year and the industry, “The need to ensure the reliable performance of our extensive but aging municipal water, wastewater, stormwater and civil infrastructure will continue to be the main driver of our industry. Sustainability and asset management are becoming increasingly important as municipalities and utilities develop their annual Capital Improvement Plans with the goal to prioritize spending of available funds. Wright-Pierce continues to assist many municipalities in evaluating and strategically prioritizing their infrastructure upgrade needs with solutions tailored to achieve short and longterm technical goals and match financial constraints.”
In June, Wright-Pierce was also recognized by ENR as one of the “Top 500” Design Firms, and earned rankings in the Top 25 of the ENR Top Design Firms Sourcebook in the Wastewater Treatment Plants and Sanitary and Storm Sewers categories.
Wright-Pierce also continues to earn award recognition for completed projects including three American Council of Engineering Companies Engineering Excellence Awards in New Hampshire, Massachusetts and Rhode Island. In addition, the firm was recently recognized by Healthiest Employer, LLC for promoting a culture of wellness through the companywide program, The Wright Way to Wellness, which provides incentives and rewards to all employees for healthy life choices.

River Museum aerial adventures
ESSEX — The Connecticut River Museum will present a program detailing the aerial adventures of Jerry and Tom as they delve into the four major regions of the river, with breathtaking photography and historical backgrounds of towns along the River from the source to the Sound. The program will be held Sept. 18 at 5:30 p.m.
The book displays photographs by pilot Captain Tom Walsh with narration by historian Jerry Roberts. Together they create an impressive account of the 410 miles of the Connecticut River.
Jerry Roberts is a 34-year museum professional with a background as an exhibit designer, writer, documentarian, and museum executive. He has served as Vice President in charge of exhibits at the Intrepid Sea Air and Space Museum in New York City, Executive Director of the Connecticut River Museum in Essex, CT, and Executive Director of the New England Air Museum in Windsor Locks.
Captain Tom Walsh is a former US Marine Corps fighter pilot who is now a senior international Captain for a major US airline. Through his company, Shoreline Aerial Photography, he has photographed thousands of sites all over the US for both major corporations and private individuals.
The Connecticut River Museum is located at 67 Main Street on the Essex waterfront and is open daily from 10 am to 5 pm. The Museum, located in the historic Steamboat Dock building, offers exhibits and programs about the history and environment of the Connecticut River. Mercy High to hold open house
MIDDLETOWN — Mercy High School, 1740 Randolph Road Middletown, will hold an open house for middle school and transfer students, Sunday, Nov. 4, 1-4 p.m. A presentation by the administration starts at 1 p.m. Mercy High School is a Catholic diocesan college preparatory high school for young women. Students from over 50 communities across Connecticut and Foreign Countries are challenged to grow academically, emotionally, socially, aesthetically and spiritually. Mercy is committed to providing a challenging educational experience in a safe and nurturing environment.
Free Preview Week coming to CMS
CENTERBROOK & EAST LYME – Community Music School, located at 90 Main Street in Centerbrook and 179 Flanders Road in East Lyme, welcomes the general public to enjoy a variety of music programming during Free Preview Week Sept.10-14. Children and adults are invited to schedule a free 30-minute preview lesson, and sample a vast array of programs for all ages including private and group lessons, Suzuki violin, adult cabaret, senior band, string ensembles, music therapy, early childhood classes, and more.

Church calls for holiday fair vendors
MIDDLETOWN —The Church of the Holy Trinity will hold their Annual Holiday Fair on Saturday, Dec. 1 from 9 a.m. – 3 p.m. at 381 Main St. Middletown.
The church is now accepting applications from crafters. The fair will be held on the 1st and 2nd floors of the Parish Hall and the Church, with elevator access to the 2nd floor. This is a great location as the Holiday on Main Street activities are all going on. Many people are out and about on Main Street during the holidays.
