Art league show: ‘Una Ano despues de Maria’
NEW BRITAIN — The Art League of New Britain at 30 Cedar Street (rear) in New Britain, will present “Un Año después de Maria” Puerto Rico — Before and After Maria: an exhibit commemorating Puerto Rico and the one-year anniversary of Hurricane Maria.
The show opens with a reception Saturday, Sept. 15, 5:30-9 p.m., which is free and open to the public. It follows a panel discussion at The New Britain Museum of American Art at 56 Lexington St., New Britain from 3 – 5 pm
The free lecture includes reporters Jeffrey Cohen and Ryan Caron King from Connecticut Public Radio’s “Puerto Rico, the Island Next Door (WNPR)”; Cynthia Casada from Consolidated School District of New Britain; and Reinaldo Rojas, Ph.D. from Central Connecticut State University. Spoken word artist Zulynette Morales will perform.
The exhibit runs Saturdays and Sundays through Sept. 30.
The exhibition includes drawings, mixed media, prints, photography, word art, sculpture and installation art, by artists and non-artists both locally and from Puerto Rico, including art from private collections.
Art depicting Puerto Rico before Maria will be alongside art created after Maria. A portion of any sales of art will go to the Hurricane Maria Puerto Rico Relief Fund https://cfgnb.org/donate-now/ The Art League of New Britain will accept cash or checks for donation. Checks should be made payable to “ALNB”.
