The Middletown Press (Middletown, CT)
Vote Working Families candidate for 32nd House
I am writing in support of Laurel Steinhauser for state representative of the 32nd District. As president of the MOMS Club of Portland and Middletown, I have gotten to know Laurel quite well and am confident that she is the right person for the job.
I am the mother of two young children, and, like Laurel, know the stresses and financial worries that come with parenthood. Laurel understands that if our government can work to expand educational opportunities for our kids, Cromwell, Portland and communities across the state will do better as a whole for years to come.
She gets that we need to protect education funding for our state’s public schools; start investing in our teachers and ensure them a fair wage and health care so they can be at their best in the classroom; and work toward expanding access to education through initiatives like bringing down the costs of higher education and implementing a statewide system for special education.
I also happen to be a member of Portland’s Clean Energy Task Force. With Connecticut’s energy costs ranked among the most expensive in the nation, and the effects of climate change more apparent than ever before, Laurel will fight to cut our monthly bills by working to introduce legislation that will increase the availability of more affordable and clean energy sources like solar and wind power.
This midterm election, it is just too important to stay home. Laurel knows better than anyone else that Connecticut needs new ideas, the kinds of forward-thinking policies that will make our state the best it can be for our kids. I encourage you to vote for her this Nov. 6.
