Boobstock festival returns for 6th year

-

DEEP RIVER — The sixth annual Boobstock, a mini music festival to raise money for breast cancer patients at Smilow Cancer Hospital at Yale New Haven and Middlesex Hospital Cancer Center, will be held from 1 to 6 p.m. Sept. 15 at the John (Jan) III Sobieski Club, 10 Woodland Road, Deep River.

Tickets are $25 for ages 12 to 64 and $15 for ages 5 to 11 or those over 65; ages 4 and under are free. The festival will feature several bands and picnic food as well as prizes, T-shirts and bandanas, coosies and bumper stickers to be given away. All profits will be split equally between the two hospitals.

Boobstock was founded in 2013 by Margaret Rohner to “pay it forward” after her breast cancer diagnosis and cure through an early-detection program at Smilow Cancer Hospital at Yale New Haven in 2012. Also in 2012, Nell Johnson gradually succumbed to breast cancer after a valiant four year battle. Margaret died 3 months after the first Boobstock.

Last year, the event raised more than $8,600 through attendance, merchandise sales, raffles, an auction and several corporate, business and individual donations. The goal is to double that amount this year. Visit boobstock.com or its Facebook page for details about this year’s auction items.

Donations should be made payable to “Boobstock” and mailed c/o Patricia Unan, 72 Bokum Road, Deep River CT 06417 or dropped off or mailed to any Liberty Bank. Donors will receive thank you letters for tax purposes. For more information, contact Patricia Unan, Boobstock administrator, at 860-227-6232 or dram2006@ gmail.com.
