MIDDLETOWN — Three men are charged with engaging in a vicious attack Sept. 2 that caused injury to a blind woman and left the local Denny’s restaurant with numerous upended tables and chairs, forcing the eatery to close for hours afterward for clean-up, according to local police.

Derek Williamson, 29, of Kryvel Road, Meriden, was charged with assault on a blind person, third-degree assault, fourth-degree criminal mischief and breach of peace Sept. 2 following a “very violent” fight at Denny’s on South Main Street. A witness told police the man and his twin brother, Daryl Williamson, also of Kryvel Road, Meriden, attacked Erick U. Ortega, 25, of Maplewood Terrace, Middletown, injuring a 50-year-old visually impaired woman in the process, local police said in a report.

Daryl Williamson was charged with assault on a blind person, third-degree assault, fourth-degree criminal mischief and breach of peace. Ortega was charged with fourth-degree criminal mischief, breach of peace and third-degree assault Sept. 2 for his alleged connection to the incident.

The men are accused of flipping tables and chairs, breaking dishes, glasses and salt and pepper shakers. The report said Denny’s lost sales from having to close for several hours afterward.

The woman was sent to Middlesex Hospital for evaluation, as were the men, who suffered injuries during the fight, authorities said. Both brothers were issued a $5,000 bond and were due in court Sept. 14. Ortega was issued a promise to appear in court Sept. 17.
