The Lyme Public Hall Association will hold a Tag Sale and Bake Sale, 9 a.m.-1 p.m., Sept. 22, with housewares, furniture, jewelry and unexpected treasures, as well as a bake sale with home-made pies and other tasty treats. Donations can be made Sept. 17-20, 10 a.m.-2 p.m. and Sept. 20, 6-8 p.m. No clothing, records, books or clothing, large appliances, upholstered or board furniture, electronics or large exercise equipment accepted. WHATTRIVIA NIGHT: The Ivoryton Library invites teams to take part in WhatTrivia Night, Sept. 15, 7 p.m. at Centerbrook Meeting House, 51 Main St in Centerbrook, to benefit the library. RIVER ART TOUR: The River Valley Art Tour, the inaugural tour of studios and work spaces of 25 artists in Chester, Essex and Deep River will be Saturday, Sept. 15 and Sunday, Sept. 16 from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. participants are established artists and artisans who work in a wide variety of mediums and styles from abstract origami to traditional oil landscapes. See where artists make their creations, whether a kitchen table or a well-appointed studio overlooking the Connecticut River, and to view a selection of their work, all of which will be for sale. SIPS AND SLATES: First Church in Middletown celebrating its 350th Anniversary, will hold a Sips & Slates event, Sept. 15, 7-9 p.m. at the church, 190 Court St. Admission is $10, 21 and over only, includes a glass of home-brewed beer or cider. Listen to music performed by church members. Bid on roof slates (from the church building) decorated by local artists. All proceeds support the restoration of our 145 year old building. BEACH CLEANUP: Hammonasset Beach cleanup on International Coastal Cleanup Day will be held Sept. 15, 9 a.m.-1 p.m. Volunteers, meet at the Meigs Point Nature Center at Hammonasset Beach State Park, Madison. BOOK SALE: Friends of the Deep River Library Book Sale at the Deep River Public Library will be held Sept. 15, 9 a.m.-4 p.m. Shop for gently used books, baked goods and plants. All proceeds go to support the library and fund educational and enrichment opportunities for the community.
TOWN WIDE TAG SALE: Middletown’s 7th Annual Town Wide Tag Sale event, sponsored by The Church of the Holy Trinity, will be held at multiple locations all over Middletown on Saturday, Sept. 15, 8:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m., rain or shine. FAMILY FUN DAY: Disaster Restoration Services (DRS), a member company of DKI, North America’s largest disaster restoration contracting organization, is hosting a Family Fun Day at Portland Riverfront Park on Sept. 15, 11 a.m.-4 p.m. Carnival games, a cornhole and jousting tournament, a bounce house, live music, crafts and food. REMOVING WATER CHESTNUT: On Sunday, Sept. 16, 9 to 11 a.m., paddlers will unite in an effort to remove the remaining water chestnut plants from the lower Mattabesset River in the Floating Meadows between Middletown and Cromwell. If we can get about 20 paddlers, we have a good chance of clearing the main stem of the river for the first time in 5 years. Leave from the canoe and kayak launch at 181 Johnson St. in Middletown. Paddlers are required to wear life jackets and to sign a Jonah Center liability waiver and photo permission form. A porta-potty is located at the launch site.
