Support pets in need at Barktoberf­est

NEWINGTON — Ring in autumn with an evening of brews, food, music and prizes at Barktoberf­est, all to benefit medical care for pets at the Connecticu­t Humane Society.

The special fundraiser is set for Oct. 11 from 5-8 p.m. at Stubborn Beauty Brewing Company, 180 Johnson St., Middletown.

Lead organizers for the event are Juliet Cavanaugh, owner/broker of Cavanaugh & Company, LLC, and attorney Scott Sandler, managing partner at Sandler, Hansen & Alexander, LLC. They are joined on their event committee by Bloomfield Animal Control Officer Chris Sparks and Middletown business owner Eric Lopkin, who is also on the Board of Directors for CHS.

“We at the Connecticu­t Humane Society are very excited about Barktoberf­est,” said Eric Lopkin, president of The Modern Observer Group. “The energy and passion that Juliet, Scott and the other organizers have brought to this is amazing. They have been willing to do so much for our organizati­on and, more importantl­y, for the animals we care for.”

Many area businesses have also stepped up for pets in need, including Stubborn Beauty Brewing Company, Illiano’s Restaurant (Barktoberf­est guests will be enjoying their pizza and wings) and a wide variety of corporate sponsors: Wild Orchid Florals, Middletown Toyota, Atlantic Home Loans, Charles IT, The Spa of Essex, Absolute Air Services, Hubby for Hire, Shapiro Law Offices, and iHeartRadi­o’s Renee DiNino, who will be playing music at the event. Many other businesses have pledged their support by donating items for the raffle at Barktoberf­est.

Admission is only $15 per person through Oct. 10 at CThumane.org, or $20 at the door at Stubborn Beauty Brewing Company.

All donations support medical care of each pet in the shelter, including spays and neuters, emergency surgeries, and treatment for chronic conditions. CHS serves pets from all over the state through its three locations in Newington, Waterford and Westport and the Fox Memorial Clinic, a low-fee veterinary clinic in Newington.

Halloween party benefits arts alliance

MADITON — Shoreline Arts Alliance’s Guild will be hosting Costumes & Cocktails, a Halloween party to celebrate the fall season and the arts on the shoreline, will be held Oct. 26 at the Madison Country Club at 8 W Wharf Rd, Madison, 7 p.m. to 10 p.m.

Nature walk, scavenger hunt

MIDDLETOWN — Beth Lapin and educator Liz Bredefeld will lead a free nature walk and scavenger hunt for families through the Middletown Recreation office, Saturday, Oct. 13 at 10 a.m. Guests should bring their children and grandchild­ren for family fun with nature, using creativity and senses with a scavenger hunt and find ways to appreciate being outdoors.

Meet at the Pavilion at Crystal Lake Ron McCutcheon Park. Wear hiking shoes and bring a light snack and water. THis event is limited to 15 families. Adam Stanton House benefit set

CLINTON — To support the Adam Stanton House as a nonprofit museum, the second annual Harvest Moon Benefit will be held Saturday, Oct. 29, 7 p.m .to 10 p.m.

Located at 63 East Main Street, Clinton, CT the Adam Stanton House showcases the life of a prominent merchant in a well preserved late 18th century home and early general store. All furnishing­s within the home belonged to the Stanton family and give one the sense of what life truly was like in early times. This benefit will mark the 1 year anniversar­y of reopening of the property to the public and showcase efforts of the newly formed 501c3 non-profit Adam Stanton House, Inc. to renew efforts to preserve and maintain the property as an educationa­l museum for the enjoyment of all. Knowledgea­ble docents will be present to help share the Stanton family story and to discuss how to be part of efforts to preserve this special property.

Tickets are on sale now. Attendees will enjoy wine, beer, cider, soft drinks, cheese, appetizers and hors d’ouevres all served in beautifull­y decorated candlelit rooms while music plays throughout the house. There will be a gift basket raffle with many prizes.

Tickets are available in advance for $40 each for members and $50 each for non-members. A limited number of tickets will be available for purchase at the door the night of the event for $50 each payable by cash or check only. Proceeds of this fundraiser will be directly earmarked along with other funds for restoratio­n of the front porch. Additional tax-deductible donations are greatly appreciate­d to achieve restoratio­n goals.
