Carpino supports women’s, family, patient rights
Christie Carpino chose to serve the entire community. She ran and won the Cromwell/Portland (District 32) House of Representatives seat.
Her 2018 legislative report includes, “Need help working with state government? Contact me for help. Call: 860-240-8700.” Rep. Carpino cannot help that of which she isn’t aware. In addition, she has an end-ofsession discussion.
This year, Rep. Melissa Ziobron, ranking member of Appropriations Committee, attended. Before the session begins, Rep. Carpino schedules appointments with constituents to answer questions, discuss problems/concerns, and listen to recommendations/ideas. She is Assistant House Republican Leader, Regulation Review Committee chairwoman, and Public Health Committee and Judiciary Committee member.
Rep. Carpino voted to increase school security funding. She is vice chairwoman of the new bipartisan School Safety and Security Working Group. It will study current practices/ procedures and generate improvement strategies.
When abuse allegations surfaced at the state-run Whiting Forensic Hospital, Rep. Carpino took the challenge. To understand this environment and its issues, she sought out and met with patients, their families, staff and advocates. Rep. Carpino led legislative action requiring on-site inspections, licensure and regulation. Further, it requires mandatory reporting of suspected abuse.
To protect women’s and family rights, Rep. Carpino worked to assist domestic violence victims. She presented specific legislation and supported legislation that increased sexual assault reporting requirements.
