Vincent Giarrano’s ‘City Life’ open
MADISON — Acclaimed realist artist Vincent Giarrano’s 10th solo exhibition at Susan Powell Fine Art is now on display, continuing through November. ]
Giarrano’s new series explores contemporary women living their lives in New York City. Soho streets, hip, historic, and atmospheric cafes, restaurants and bar environments, workshops, rooftops and interiors set the scenes for his subjects. “Giarrano portrays the modern urban female, with the beauty, color, vibe, and reality of life he sees and feels in the city” says Susan Powell, owner of the gallery.
Among the striking and powerful pieces is “Waitresses at Caffe Reggio,” a meticulously painted, spontaneous scene of two waitresses attending to their work in the 1920’s Greenwich Village cafe which has been the setting for numerous movies. The rich interior of memorabilia is the backdrop for the casual ordinary scene, making a fascinating narrative.
“Meeting at the Rabbit Club” shows a hip young woman in dramatic perspective, at the cellar door of this contemporary beer bar in Greenwich Village, whose name is an ode to the old rabbit clubs of late-19th century Manhattan.
“Broome Street in Soho” portrays another young woman walking on the historic Soho street on a bright afternoon. The details on the distinctive buildings and textures are beautifully painted in this classic New York city scene.
