Buttonwood gallery show extends to Dec. 1

MIDDLETOWN — In The Buttonwood Tree art gallery, “The Middletown Series” by Janine Janaki, a series of paintings will remain on display until Dec. 1.

Janaki, a Middletown artist, “offers an introspective, passionate and heartfelt caption to each of her paintings on display at The Buttonwood Tree, allowing the viewer a deeper understanding and appreciation for the visual art. There is such spirit in the paintings that if you've been to the places she's painted such as O'Rourke's Diner, Wadsworth Falls, Wild Bill's Nostalgia, which recently closed, Eli Cannon's or Smith & Bishell Hardware, you're likely to be taken back there in your mind, and feel just like you did when you were there. Or perhaps you'll identify with one of the special people she has drawn, like the Meditation Man, Bob Vinci, or the Sweeper, Fred Carroll. Each piece is a masterpiece and prints are available for very reasonable prices,” according to a written statement. Visit JaninesArt.com to learn more.

On Wednesday, Oct. 31, 8-10 p.m. a Piggy Palooza comedy show to benefit Arthur’s Acres Animal Sanctuary features a night of laughter and fun with Sammy Obeid. Advance tickets are $15 before Oct 25., $20 at the door. The show begins at 8 p.m.

Sammy K. Obeid is an American writer and stand-up comedian. He has released one comedy album, “Get Funny or Die Tryin.: His show is for its “analytic style full of wordplay, clever misdirection and ethnic humor riffing on his Middle Eastern roots (he’s Lebanese-American).

Obeid has been featured on America’s Got Talent, Conan and Last Comic Standing. He is perhaps best known for performing 1,000 nights of comedy in a row, a current world record.[2]

On Nov. 3, the Buttonwood Tree welcomes back acoustic folk/pop duo The Kennedys. The show begins at 8 p.m. and tickets are $20. Reservations are suggested.

Pete and Maura Kennedy present a lively, fun acoustic folk pop show. Pete's guitar playing is worldclass and stellar; he's played with an incredible list of musicians. Their high energy is palpable and tremendously engaging.

The Kennedys, both East Coast natives, met in Austin, Texas, joined forces with Nanci Griffith’s Blue Moon Orchestra for a couple of years, and set out on a road that, for two decades, has led them not only west but all over the US and the UK many times. This year, they celebrate their twentieth anniversary both as a band and a married couple. Rather than indulge in a nostalgic look backward, they’ve taken Dylan’s dictum “don’t look back” to heart; writing and recording forty new songs. Be sure to reserve your seat!
