Four chosen as October students of month
MIDDLETOWN — Ninth- through 12th-grade Vinal Technical High School students were recently honored as students of the month for October.
Staff and faculty selected the students because they are role models for the school and have been working hard for all four years. All the seniors have proven themselves to be focused students, excellent workers in shop, and people who vividly demonstrate the values of Vinal Tech.
There were many submissions for student of the month for this cycle, so making a decision was very difficult.
Ninth-grader Sabrina Czapiga: Focused and intelligent, Sabrina always works very studiously in Language Arts to make sure she completes all her assignments on time. She is a true asset for the class, whether she is answering questions in class, helping peers understand questions, or completing reading and in-class activities. Sabrina always uses maximum effort in everything she does and gets rewarded with nearly flawless scores for most every assignment.
10th-grader Connor Mitchell: Connor puts forth 100 percent effort, even if he is struggling to understand a concept or problem. He is comfortable with engaging in the classroom, as he often volunteers to read and contributes to discussion. He asks for help if he needs it and also cheerfully helps others as well. He is a pleasure to have in class and an excellent example of what a Vinal student looks like.
11th-grader Nayelis Melendez: Nayelis is this year’s Student Council president. She is respectful, responsible, and wonderful to work with. She has a talent with engaging with staff and students, and she takes her role seriously and expects everyone around her to do so as well. Nayelis performs well in all scholastic areas, including academics, on the council, and in shop. Mr. Crary, her shop instructor, has personally praised Nayelis’ excellent focus and serious effort for her work in her trade activities. Overall Nayelis is well-rounded and a great role model for all Vinal students.
12th-grader Michael Sola: Since Michael began attending Vinal as a freshman, he has shown tremendous perseverance and growth. He has dealt with and overcome numerous obstacles as he continues to work for his high school diploma. Michael has a goal in mind and continues to exhibit the hard work it takes to reach it, no matter what. He is a hard working respectful young man who has a bright future ahead of him, and his dedication, focus and drive cannot be overstated.
