KEEP AN EYE ON

⏩ TWO-HEADED MONSTER: Both starting center Josh Carlton and backup Eric Cobb have had their moments this season. Carlton has had his against smaller, less-talented teams, while Cobb has saved his best for the Power 5 foes. Carlton is averaging 12.8 points (including a career-high 17 points, twice) in UConn’s five games against mid-to-low majors, but just 1.0 points and 1.3 boards against Syracuse, Iowa and Arizona. He didn’t have a single point or rebound against Arizona. Conversely, Cobb is averaging 13.6 points and 10 rebounds, and has notched a pair of double-doubles, against the P5 opponents, but just 2.8 points and 1.8 boards against Morehead State, UKMC, Cornell, New Hampshire and UMass Boston.

A cynic might note that Carlton would be due for a big game against Lafayette, which doesn’t have a player taller than 6-foot-8.

⏩ DON’T LOOK AHEAD!: Wednesday’s game is sandwiched between a couple of bouts with the big boys — Arizona this past Sunday, and 11th-ranked Florida State on Saturday in Newark, N.J. With that in mind, the Huskies can’t afford to look past the Leopards.

“We’ve got to prepare for every team the same way,” said forward Sidney Wilson, “and keep bringing our best out on the court.”

⏩ DEF LEOPARDS?: UConn and Lafayette have met just three times, and not since Nov. 25, 1994 — a 110-48 Husky win that improved their all-time mark to 3-0 against the Leopards. This season, Lafayette has defeated Farleigh Dickinson and La Salle and lost to St. Peter’s, Penn, Saint Francis, Sacred Heart and Cornell (whom UConn trounced 91-74).
