10 games to see in 2018-19

- — Michael Fornabaio

Ridgefield at Fairfield Prep (Wonderland of Ice), Wednesday, 6 p.m.

The past two state champs: Not a bad way to get the season started. The rematch at the Winter Garden is Feb. 13 at 7:30 p.m.

Wilton at JBWA (Danbury), Wednesday, 7:40 p.m.

It’s the first game for the state’s newest co-op: That’s “Joel Barlow (which had been independent)-Weston (formerly part of a couple of different co-ops)-Abbott Tech.”

Farmington Valley at Northwest Catholic (ISCC), Wednesday, 7:50 p.m.

The CCC North championship-game rematch to start the season. The Lions have rapidly become a solid Division I program. The Generals stepped up and won Division II last year.

Eastern CT Eagles at WMRP (Newington), Wednesday, 7:55 p.m.

It’s the first Division II game for the Eagles, a co-op based out of Fitch that has risen after suffering some winless seasons not all that long ago.

Notre Dame-West Haven at Hamden, Dec. 22, 1 p.m.

Rivals in a lot of sports and perennials in hockey, they’ll meet for the first of two times at Astorino just before Christmas. The Green Dragons return the visit to Bennett Rink on Feb. 2 at 5:30 p.m.

Greenwich at Ridgefield (Winter Garden), Jan. 25, 4:30 p.m.

A rematch of last year’s FCIAC championship and a game between two of the most highly regarded teams in the state to start the season. Shame it waits so long.

Sheehan at Lyman Hall/Haddam-Killingworth/Coginchaug (Northford Ice Pavilion), Jan. 26, 8 p.m.

The road to Ingalls Rink may lead through Wallingford this year. Well, it does every year for teams from the Hartford area, but Sheehan and LHK are the most-talked-about teams to be there at the end in Division III. They’ll meet at Northford in January and at Wesleyan on Feb. 16 at 8:30 p.m.

New Canaan at Darien (Darien Ice House), Jan. 30, 4 p.m.

Really doesn’t need a blurb in any sport, does it?

Farmington Valley at Guilford (DiLungo), Feb. 16, 4:30 p.m.

A rematch of last year’s Division II final and two teams highly regarded this year, too.

Hamden at New Fairfield/Immaculate (Danbury), Feb. 27, 6:40 p.m.

Unless NFI makes the SCC/SWC title game, this is scheduled to be the last game for the co-op, which opted out of this season’s CIAC tournament to remain intact for one more season, its 10th together.
