OLD SAYBROOK — Estuary Council of Seniors, Inc., a regional senior center serving Chester, Clinton, Deep River, Essex, Killingworth, Lyme, Old Lyme, Old Saybrook and Westbrook, at 220 Main St., Old Saybrook, welcomes guests to an opening reception for Brian Willis, whose paintings will be on display through the month.

The reception will be held Friday from 5-7 p.m. The public is welcome free of charge. Refreshments will be provided.

Willis began painting in 2002 with no prior experience. He saw a notice in the Estuary newsletter for art classes and began painting watercolors with longtime instructor Stan Carver.

His lessons continued with instructors Gene Bekaert and currently with Linda Beagle and Elin Larson. Most of his work has been in watercolor, but during the past three years, he’s also enjoyed painting in acrylic. He has studied acrylic painting on the web site of artist and teacher Will Kemp.

Willis enjoys painting landscape, still life, animal, and portrait pictures. He’s had pictures accepted by the Essex Art Association and Clinton Art Society juried shows. This year he was awarded the Henry H. Pierce Memorial Landscape prize at the Clinton Art Society show. This is his second show in the Marshview Gallery.
