KEEP AN EYE ON

⏩ Bring your own energy: With a change in the game’s starting time, as well as a not-so-marquee opponent, the Gampel crowd may not be too large on Saturday — even though the school is giving away free tickets to students. The Huskies may still have to supply their own energy.

“Let me tell you something,” said Dan Hurley, “we’d better be breathing fire. If there’s 2,500 people in here, there’s no excuses postgame. We should be absolutely desperate, urgent. I know I’m bothered by our performance (against Tulsa) — the 30 (minutes) I saw in person and the 10 I watched on closed-circuit in the back, an unacceptable display. Especially at the defensive end.”

⏩ Sid is questionable: Sidney Wilson has sat out the last two practices with thumb and ankle issues and will be a game-time decision on Saturday. If Wilson doesn’t play, it will open up the chance for more playing time for Isaiah Whaley, who has been “chomping at the bit” for more action lately, according to Hurley.

⏩ Mo-mentum?: Surprisingly, Hurley noted that Mamadou Diarra may return to action at some point this season, even noting that he could play Saturday, depending on how he looks during shootaround. More likely, Diarra wouldn’t be available until the following Saturday against Wichita State.

Even that’s surprising, given that Diarra appeared to be done for the season just a couple of weeks ago. He’s been amping it up in pregame warmups lately and had his most active practice of the season on Friday.

“There’s a big difference between two-line layups and getting out, hedging a ball screen, having to spring back, play post defense, block out, spring. There’s a lot more concern about making sure he’s ready, because he’s had such a rough history with his knee health. Both shortterm, long-term, we have to make sure he’s not putting himself in a position where he’s more susceptible to injury.”

⏩ Perfect, so far: UConn is 6-0 against Tulane. The Green Wave is the only AAC team the Huskies have yet to lose to since the league began in 2013-14.
