Juleps & Viragoes, the living history department of the Cromwell Historical Society, will provide evening of period music, food, dancing and more at the Cromwell Town Hall. The event is open to the public and period dress is not a requirement.

Dancing, both formal and informal, was an important aspect of Victorian life enjoyed by everyone regardless of age or class. In the formal ballroom, Victorian Society was on its best behavior and adhered to a very strict etiquette. Ladies dressed in gowns that reflected their age, position and marital status and Gentlemen wore the finest formal attire of the very latest fashion. Everyone wore white gloves and exchanged dace cards only when proper introductions had been made. The dances were led by floor managers and were of such nature that those participating could engage in elegant conversation. The Juleps & Viragoes Ball of the Rebellion aims to emulate these formal occasions in a manner that is both enjoyable and entertaining.

In this spirit, Juleps & Viragoes offers the 2019 Ball of the Rebellion. The dances will be expertly taught and called by Terry & Jim Historical Dance and live music will be provided by Spare Parts, an ensemble that specializes in historical dance music. Period refreshments will be presented during the intermissions and the Town Hall will be vastly decorated for the event. While many who attend this ball will be wearing historical clothing, it is not a requirement. Guests are equally welcome to attend in modern formal or dress attire.
