Sun acquire center Plaisance in trade with Wings

The Connecticut Sun own the best record in the WNBA, but the team is continuing to tinker with its roster.

The Sun traded 2019 firstround draft pick Kristine Anigwe to the Dallas Wings for veteran center/forward Theresa Plaisance in advance of Tuesday night’s WNBA trade deadline.

The 6foot5 Plaisance has played in 22 games — including 12 starts — for Dallas, averaging 6.0 points and 4.4 rebounds. In 134 games over six seasons with Dallas/Tulsa, she has averaged 4.5 points and 3.0 rebounds.

The 64 Anigwe, drafted ninth overall out of Cal, averaged 2.0 points and 1.8 rebounds in 17 games with the Sun.

“We are excited about the acquisition of Theresa Plaisance,” Sun head coach and general manager Curt Miller said in a statement. “Theresa is a talented, versatile offensive player and is considered one of the best stretch post players in the league. She is someone who we have targeted for a few seasons and we are excited to have her with us. Theresa gives us an experienced, young veteran presence who has a tremendous reputation across the league as a fantastic teammate and unifier in the locker room.”

Plaisance, 27, was drafted in the out of LSU in the third round in 2014. She is a career 35 percent 3point shooter and has convert

ed 23 this season, second behind the Sun’s Jonquel Jones (31) for most in the WNBA by a center.

She is also one of four starting WNBA centers with a positive assist-to-turnover ratio (1.13). Her

presence will give the Sun a rim protector off the bench.

The Sun (166) next play Friday night at Minnesota (8 p.m.), the start of a threegame trip that includes stops in Las Vegas and Phoenix.
