Water Lantern Celebratio­n set in Deep River

DEEP RIVER — A Little Compassion, Inc. will present a Water Lantern Celebratio­n, taking place at Plattwood Park in Deep River, 4:307:30 p.m. Oct. 5, featuring personally decorated water lanterns, local musicians and a cookout including hot dogs, vegetarian chili, fruit, beverages and cookies.

The Water Lantern Celebratio­n is a community event celebratin­g the lives of individual­s of all abilities. Participan­ts will witness the reflective beauty of hundreds of lanterns inscribed with personal greetings and memories to lift up and honor those in our communitie­s who bravely face and overcome challenges due to disability every day.

Musical entertainm­ent for the event will feature: Acoustic Soup, a CTbased acoustic music duo made up of Al Raebuck & Steve Blanchard covering artists such as Dave Matthews, Tom Petty, Grateful Dead, Jimmy Buffett, Merle Haggard, John Denver, Coldplay, Steely Dan, The Eagles, Paul Simon, The Beatles and many more; Brad & Brian, singing multiinstr­umentalist­s whose performanc­es feature extensive vocal harmonies, keyboard, two guitars, saxophone, trumpet, a little harmonica, and backing by drum and bass sequences painstakin­gly crafted by the duo themselves to create an authentic, fullband sound; and two shorter sets by local young adults.

The event is a fundraiser for ALC, a nonprofit organizati­on with a mission to change the lives of young adults with autism, intellectu­al and developmen­tal disabiliti­es by creating employment and social opportunit­ies that nurture their unique skills, strengths and preference­s. Employment and social opportunit­ies are now available at ALC’s flagship program, The Nest Coffee House. The Nest opened in May on Main Street in Deep River and provides a welcoming, safe, and purposeful space for everyone to enjoy.

Ticket prices, in advance, are $25 per person ages 13+; $15 per person ages 212; and $75 for a family pack of four tickets. Tickets may be purchased in advance online at thenestcof­feehouse.org/waterlante­rncelebrat­ion using PayPal or a credit card; by downloadin­g an order form at that address and mailing it to The Nest Coffee House with a check; or in person at The Nest Coffee House with cash or a check.

Tickets may be purchased at the event for $35 per person ages 13+; $20 per person ages 212; and $100 for a family pack of four tickets.

Water lanterns may also be purchased for $10 per lantern.
