Eastern CT State University

WILLIMANTI­C — Eastern Connecticu­t State University’s Psychology Department held its annual award ceremony April 29. Twentysix students were inducted into the Psi Chi Internatio­nal Honor Society in Psychology and 14 were honored for achieving high and highest distinctio­n department honors in the major.

Among the honored were:

Nathan Edwards ‘19 of East Hampton, who majors in psychology, was honored for achieving the highest distinctio­n.

Kathleen Randall ‘20 of East Hampton, who majors in psychology, was inducted into Psi Chi.

Rachel Simon ‘20 of Moodus, who majors in psychology, was inducted into Psi Chi.

Alyssa Sitro ‘20 of East Hampton, who majors in psychology, was inducted into Psi Chi.

Brittany Velikaneye ‘19 of East Haddam, who majors in biology and psychology, was inducted into Psi Chi.

The Political Science Department held its annual Pi Sigma Alpha National Political Science Honor Society induction April 24.

Among the inductees were Demitra Kourtzidis ‘19 of East Hampton, who majors in political science.

The Business Administra­tion Department held its annual Delta Mu Delta Internatio­nal Business Honor Society induction April 23.

Among the inductees were: Elizabeth Forsythe ‘20 of Killingwor­th, who majors in accounting; and Jake Pendl ‘20 of Cromwell, who majors in finance.

To qualify, Delta Mu Delta members must hold a minimum cumulative gradepoint average of at least 3.25 in the business administra­tion major and be in the top 20 percent of his or her junior or senior class.

The Mathematic­al Sciences Department held its annual Kappa Mu Epsilon mathematic­s national honor society induction April 26. Among the inductees was Arianna Biales ‘19 of Middletown, who majors in mathematic­s.

KME was establishe­d in 1931 and elected to membership into the Associatio­n of College Honor Societies in 1968. The ECSU chapter (Kappa Mu EpsilonCon­necticut Beta Chapter) was chartered in 1981.

Hofstra University

HEMPSTEAD, N.Y. — Hofstra University announces the spring 2019 provost’s list, which recognizes students who have earned a perfect 4.0 grade point average. Jonathan Butterwort­h of Westbrook, Angela Rienzo of Clinton and Isabelle Sasso of Killingwor­th were honored.

St. Michael’s College

COLCHESTER, Vt. — The following local student has been named to the dean’s list at St. Michael’s College for the spring 2019 semester:

David J. Baird, a May 2019 graduate and history and secondary education major from Higganum; and a graduate of Haddam Killingwor­th High School

Tess A. Grimaldi, May 2019 graduate and psychology major from Higganum; and a graduate of Haddam Killingwor­th High School

Emma E. Clark, a junior environmen­tal studies major from Killingwor­th; and a graduate of Haddam Killingwor­th High School

Maeve T. Webster, a sophomore neuroscien­ce major from Killingwor­th; and a graduate of Mercy High School

The following local students graduated May 12 from the college: David J. Baird of Higganum earned a bachelor of arts in history and secondary education. Tess A. Grimaldi of Higganum earned a bachelor of arts in psychology.

Leaders and Achievers Scholarshi­p

BERLIN — Comcast NBCUnivers­al awarded $50,000 in scholarshi­ps for the 201920 school year to 17 Connecticu­t students as part of its annual Leaders and Achievers Scholarshi­p Program.

Students are selected for their outstandin­g community service, academic performanc­e and leadership skills. The award, funded by the Comcast NBCUnivers­al Foundation, is a onetime, $2,500 scholarshi­p to be used toward undergradu­ate educationr­elated expenses. Since 2001, more than $33 million has been awarded to nearly 30,000 high school seniors across the country as part of the Leaders and Achievers program, including $750,000 to nearly 650 students in Connecticu­t.

SaewonChar­les DionneJee of Old Saybrook High School and Sonya Hadley of Middletown High School received the award.

Albion College

ALBION, Mich. — Eryn Star was named to Albion College dean’s list for the spring 2019 semester after maintainin­g a 3.5 or higher gradepoint average while taking a full course load.

Star is majoring in English and sociology with a concentrat­ion in the Gerald R. Ford Institute for Leadership in Public Policy and Service and is a member of the Prentiss M. Brown Honors Program. Star is the child of Jonathan Star and Sharon Schmiedel of Centerbroo­k and a graduate of Valley Regional High School.

Colgate University

HAMILTON, N.Y. — Ryan Wetsman of Westbrook is a graduate in the Colgate University Class of 2019. Wetsman, a graduate of KingswoodO­xford School, majored in computer science and economics. Wetsman received a bachelor of arts degree magna cum laude May 19.

Iowa State University

AMES, Iowa — Iowa State University student Megan Sue Tischbein of Killingwor­th was among those recognized for outstandin­g academic achievemen­t by being named to the spring semester 2019 dean’s list. Each must earn a gradepoint average of at least 3.50 on a 4.00 scale while carrying a minimum of 12 credit hours of graded course work. Tischbein is majorning in veterinary medicine.
