Time for Huskies next home game set

- By Paul Doyle

UConn’s next home game will be under the lights at Rentschler Field.

The American Athletic Conference announced Monday that UConn’s Oct. 5 game against South Florida will be played at 7 p.m. The game will be televised by CBS Sports Network.

UConn plays it first AAC game Saturday, visiting No. 22 UCF in Orlando (7 p.m., ESPN2). The Huskies (12) are coming off a 383 loss at Indiana.

The Hoosiers outgained UConn 430145 as the Huskies managed just 51 yards on the ground. Freshman quarterback Jack Zergiotis was 14 of 28 for 90 yards and one interception.

“One thing we have to be able to do … we have to be able to run the football,” UConn coach Randy Edsall said Monday on the weekly AAC media call. “It’s just something that we’re going to continue to work on and continue to get better at, because I just think that if we can have the ability to run the ball, that it’s going to help our young quarterback and it’s going to help our passing game, as well.”

UCF (31) is coming off a 3534 loss to Pittsburgh, which ended the Knights’ 27game regular season winning streak.

CANADIAN COMMITMENT

Toronto native Carter Hooper, a defensive end who plays at the IMG Academy in Florida, announced on Twitter over the weekend that he will attend UConn as part of the Class of 2020.

The 6foot5, 234pound Hooper drew interest from UMass, Brown. Florida International and Charleston Southern. He is the 10th commitment to UConn for the Class of 2020 and the third from Canada.
