CityWide Open Studios to kick off Friday
What does it mean to talk with someone a generation older or younger? What does it mean to commune with someone who has passed away or may not yet be born?
CityWide Open Studios, a yearly exploration of the depth and breadth of New Haven’s art scene produced by Artspace, showcases artists’ attempts to wrestle with these questions.
“I think we have so much strength in our diversity of our pursuits, which really range from this very formal traditional painting style to really avantgarde theatrical performances, video pieces and installations,” said curator Sarah Fritchey.
The openstudios festival begins with an opening reception Fridayfrom 6 to 9 p.m. at Artspace at 50 Orange St.; it takes place over three other weekends in October and November, with over 400 artists displaying their work across New Haven.
