Knights’ Catholic Speaker Series offered

NORTH HAVEN — The Father James F. Donaher Council #3733 of the North Haven Knights of Columbus has organized a speaker series “to strengthen our knowledge of the Catholic faith and to make each of us more natural evangelizers,” according to a release.

The three presentations are co-sponsored with St. Elizabeth of the Trinity Parish, under the direction and spiritual leadership of its pastor, Father Michael Santiago and the Holy Family Passionist Retreat Center in West Hartford.

The presenter is Colin Petramale, a retreat team member at Holy Family. He previously worked at Little Brothers Friends of the Elderly in Chicago, Ill., and was a campus minister at the University of Dayton. He holds a bachelor of arts in Spanish from SUNY Oswego and an M.A. in theological studies from the University of Dayton.

The first topic in the series is “Prayer” and begins at 7 p.m. on Nov. 21 at St. Frances Cabrini Church Hall, 57 Pond Hill Rd, North Haven. Future sessions include “Psalms and a Spirituality of Hard Times” on Jan. 16, and “The Joy of Service: Natural Evangelization Through our Lives” on Feb. 20.

The events are free and open to the public. No reservations are necessary. For information, call Paul Caiafa at 203-6712942.

Learn more about the Catholic faith and divorce

NORTHFORD — Many Catholics have asked the following questions about the Church’s position on divorce, annulments, and marriage:

Can a divorced person receive Communion? Can a divorced person marry in the Catholic Church? Why might a nonCatholic consider or need an annulment? Does a divorced person need an annulment when the marriage was performed by a Justice of the Peace?

Often these questions and others have been met with misleading, misguided and sometimes wrong responses. A program at St. Monical Church Hall, 1320 Middletown Avenue, Northford begins at 7 p.m. on Oct. 29, where these and other questions can be answered.
