UConn announces 9 opponents for 2020 season
UConn has revealed nine opponents for the 2020 football schedule, the first season the program will operate as an independent.
The school announced Thursday morning that Ole Miss, Virginia, Army, San Jose State and Liberty have been secured, adding to the previouslyannounced games against UMass, Illinois, Indiana and Maine.
Seven of the nine games are locked into dates. The remaining three opponents will be announced soon, the school said in a release.
UConn (16) plays at UMass (16) Saturday. UConn will leave the American Athletic Conference and move to the Big East in 2020, but football will embark on an independent schedule.
The football program has struggled in recent years, with two victories in the past 19 games. UConn has lost its past 22 games against Football Bowl Subdivision opponents, dating back to October 2017.
Athletic director David Benedict has been piecing together the independent schedule since the move to the Big East was finalized over the summer. The schedule will include road games against Illinois, Ole Miss, San Jose State and Virginia.
UMass, Indiana, Liberty, Army and Maine will be at Rentschler Field.
Game times and television information will be announced in the future, UConn said in a release.
