Flu shots are still available

MIDDLETOWN — Health officials are reminding residents that it’s still not too late to get your influenza shot before peakflu season arrives. Officials emphasize that the best way to protect yourself and others from becoming ill with the flu is to wash your hands often and get vaccinated every year because influenza viruses change over time.

The Cromwell, Durham, Middlefield and Middletown health departments are continuing to offer several seasonal flu clinics throughout the month of November, which are scheduled as follows:

Nov. 19, noon3 p.m., Community Center, 405 Main St., Middlefield.

Nov. 26, 126 p.m., City Hall foyer, 245 deKoven Drive, Middletown.

To receive a flu shot, participants must be at least 18 years of age and in good health. Most insurance companies cover the cost of vaccination at little or no cost (please bring your insurance card). The vaccine will be given on a firstcome, firstserved basis; appointments will not be taken. Residency is not required. The clinics will also offer pneumonia and shingles vaccines for those who are eligible. Participants are encouraged to save time by downloading and completing their Immunization Consent Form online at cromwellct.com; (Cromwell); townofdurhamct.org; (Durham); pshd.org (Middlefield); or middletownct.gov (Middletown).
