Middlesex County college students earn distinction
Western New England University
SPRINGFIELD, Mass. — The Western New England University chapter of Alpha Lambda Delta National Honor Society welcomed 62 Arts and Science students at the annual induction ceremony, which took place on November 1 in Rivers Memorial Hall on the University campus.
Founded in 1924, Alpha Lambda Delta is a national honor society for first year students that encourages and recognizes superior academic achievement. Acceptance is based on attaining a minimum grade point average of 3.50 in their first semester of study or a 3.50 cumulative average at the end of the first year.

Independent Day School
MIDDLEFIELD — The Independent Day School recognize the following Middletown students for their academic achievements in the third trimester of the 201819 academic year. Seventh grader Elise Kennedy achieved high honors while the following students achieved honors: sixth graders Charlotte Iannucci, Henry Kennedy, and Shrikar Mutalik, seventh graders Sam Auclair, Aiden Butler, Emma Lemieux, Josey Pestel, Tracy Reynolds, Oskar Ruser, and Shiaowei Zurlo, and eight graders Gordon Culton and Avery Santos.
SkillsUSA Championships
LOUISVILLE, Ky. — Career and technical students in your area won one of the nation’s highest awards at the 2019 SkillsUSA Championships, held in Louisville, Ky., on June 2627, 2019. More than 6,500 students competed at the national showcase of career and technical education. The SkillsUSA Championships is the largest skill competition in the world and covers 1.4 million square feet, equivalent to 20 football fields or 25 acres.
Students were invited to the event to demonstrate their technical skills, workplace skills and personal skills in 103 handson competitions including robotics, automotive technology, drafting, criminal justice, aviation maintenance and public speaking. Industry leaders from 600 businesses, corporations, trade associations and unions planned and evaluated the contestants against their standards for entrylevel workers. Industry support of the SkillsUSA Championships is valued at over $36 million in donated time, equipment, cash and material. More than 1,100 industry judges and technical committee members participated this year.
⏩ The following student received a SkillsUSA Championships medal and Skill Point Certificate — Ian Mannings, from Middletown and a student at Vinal Technical High School (Middletown), was awarded the high school bronze medal in CNC Milling Specialist.
University of Connecticut
BATON ROUGE, La. — Christen Teskey of Clinton was recently initiated into The Honor Society of Phi Kappa Phi, the nation’s oldest and most selective alldiscipline collegiate honor society. Teskey was initiated at University of Connecticut.
U.S. Army
SAN ANTONIO, Texas — U.S. Air Force Airman 1st Class Nathan T. Ingebretsen graduated from basic military training at Joint Base San AntonioLackland.
The airman completed an intensive, eightweek program that included training in military discipline and studies, Air Force core values, physical fitness, and basic warfare principles and skills.
Airmen who complete basic training also earn four credits toward an associate in applied science degree through the Community College of the Air Force.
Ingebretsen is the son of Robin G. Muszynski and
Ted C. Ingebretsen of East Haddam.
He is a 2007 graduate of Nathan Hale Ray High School, East Haddam, Conn. He earned a bachelor’s degree in 2012 from the University of Maine, Machias, Maine.
New York Institute of Technology
OLD WESTBURY, N.Y. — Emily Hunter of Cromwell was among 2,769 students who received degrees as graduates of the New York Institute of Technology Class of 2019. Hunter’s MS degree is in Physician Assistant Studies.

MELBOURNE, Fla. — Alec Russo of East Hampton has been named to the Spring 2019 Dean’s List at Florida Institute of Technology.
To be included on the Dean’s List, a student must complete 12 or more graded credits in a semester with a semester grade point average of at least 3.4.

ROCHESTER, N.Y. — Rochester Institute of Technology conferred some 4,200 degrees this academic year at all its campuses—including in Croatia, Dubai, Kosovo and China. The university held its 134th annual commencement celebration in May. The following local residents received degrees:

SYRACUSE, N.Y. — Joseph Vail, a Junior Management and Leadership major from Cromwell, has been named to the Dean’s List at Le Moyne College for the Spring 2019 semester. To make the list, students must achieve a GPA of 3.5 or above.
Emma Pellegrino, from East Hampton, recently graduated from Le Moyne College with a Bachelor of Science in Biology May 19.

BURLINGTON, Vt. — Matthew Shelto of East Hampton, has been named to the Champlain College President’s List for the Spring 2019 semester.
Students on the President’s List have achieved a grade point average of 4.0 or higher during the semester. Shelto is majoring in Computer Information Technology.

Bates College
LEWISTON, Maine — Bates College graduated 469 students from 36 states and 36 countries on May 26, 2019. Cumulatively, the Class of 2019 performed 80,000 hours of community service, exemplifying Bates’ commitment to community learning and civic action.
Lauren Brough, of Killingworth, graduated after majoring in sociology and minoring in music. Brough, the child of Mr. and Mrs. Christopher D. Brough of Killingworth, is a 2015 graduate of Haddam Killingworth High School.
Brough was also inducted into the Bates ScholarAthlete Society, an organization which honors graduating seniors who have achieved a grade point average of 3.5 or have received special nomination from the faculty for outstanding academic achievement in their junior and senior years, and who have participated in a varsity sport for a minimum of three years.
Anna Esposito, of Killingworth, graduated after majoring in psychology. Esposito, the child of Mr. and Mrs. Thomas J. Esposito of Killingworth, Conn., is a 2015 graduate of Loomis Chaffee School.
Caddie Academy
GOLF, Ill. — This summer, 85 high school females from 13 states, including Middletown resident Camille Kennedy, will participate in the Western Golf Association’s eighth annual Caddie Academy—a oneofakind program that provides underprivileged female teens who may not have access to caddie programs an opportunity to caddie, and upon completion of the program, apply for a full ride to college.
The young females — more than 90 percent of them being minorities — will live together in the Chicago area and caddie daily at participating clubs along Chicago’s North Shore. Those who complete the threeyear program will become eligible to apply for the WGA’s Evans Scholarship, which provides a full, fouryear tuition and housing grant to top universities across the country. Valued at $120,000, 55 Caddie Academy participants have gone on to receive the Evans Scholarship since the program’s inception in 2012.
Girls will begin caddying daily for seven weeks on June 18 at one of 14 participating clubs while living at Woodlands Academy of the Sacred Heart in Lake Forest, Illinois. Boys will reside at the Northwestern Evans Scholarship House in Evanston, Illinois, and caddie at one of four participating clubs.
