RTC head running for commissioner
MIDDLETOWN — A lifelong resident and chairman of the local GOP town committee is hoping to be elected to the South Fire District Board of Commissioners next week.
Wilson went through the Middletown Public School system and graduated from Woodrow Wilson High School. He has been a member of Fellowship Church in Middletown since 1978, according to a press release. There, Wilson has volunteered in many ways, including child care, ushering and being a part of the greeting team.
Voting will take place Monday from 6 a.m. to 8 p.m. during the annual meeting.
There is one seat open on the board. Also hoping to win are resident Daniel Penney and former mayor, mayor candidate Sebastian N. Giuliano.
Wilson has been involved in city government since being elected to the Republican Town Committee in 1994 and serving as the chairman for the last three years. He also served on the Personal
Review Board in 1996, until the board was disbanded in 2000.
“I am running for South Fire District Commissioner because I feel the state of Connecticut has provided the district with insufficient funding. For example, the funding that is provided for Connecticut Valley Hospital, Whiting Forensic Hospital, and Riverview Hospital is unacceptable.
“It is not the responsibility of the taxpayers to foot the entire cost. My goal is to ensure proper funding for the South Fire District,” he said in a prepared statement.
Wilson was also elected to the Planning and Zoning Commission in 2001 and served for four years, he said in the release. He was a commissioner on the Board of Assessment Appeals for two years. He is also vice chairman of both the Cable Advisory Board and Harbor Improvement Agency, with a combined service of 24 years.
