Eversource tree work will cover 32 miles in Durham
DURHAM — This year, Eversource expects to invest over $83 million in tree work around the state as part of the company’s comprehensive distribution line vegetation management plan.
The utility is required to provide detailed plans, indicating the areas where distribution line vegetation management will occur, according to a press release from First Selectman Laura Francis.
A map recently sent to the tree warden highlights the roads in town where Eversource roadside tree work is expected to occur in 2020. The project covers approximately 32 miles in Durham,
Francis said.
Eversource’s team of licensed arborists will work together with the warden in advance of the work performed by qualified contractors. Homeowners contacted by Eversource seeking permission to work on their property are asked to seriously consider the request, she added. This work will help protect the electric system against inclement weather all year long.
The large number of dead and diseased trees are top of mind. The impact in Connecticut has been significant, and Eversource continues to work with the town, property owners, and the state of to address the magnitude of trees affected by disease and invasive insects, the release said.
The Board of Selectmen, Board of Finance, Public Works Department and tree warden are working together to address the growing problem with dead and dying roadside trees. While extra funds have been allocated for this year and requested for next year, it is expected to be a multiyear problem, requiring a multi-year solution.
