UConn, Quinnipiac to face off

- By Doug Bonjour

UConn will renew acquaintances with in-state foe Quinnipiac next season at Mohegan Sun Arena as part of the Hall of Fame Women’s Showcase, the schools announced Tuesday.

The Huskies will take on the Bobcats in the opening game on Nov. 28, and either Mississippi State or Maine the following day. Times for the games have yet to be announced.

Hearst Connecticut Media first reported the possibility of this arrangement back in December.

“Playing at Mohegan is always a great chance for our fans in another part of our state to come and see us play,” UConn coach Geno Auriemma said in a release. “We’re looking forward to playing there for the seventh straight season.”

Separated by only 50 miles, UConn and Quinnipiac last met in the second round of the 2018 NCAA tournament. The Huskies won 71-46 at Gampel Pavilion.

The previous season,

Auriemma donned a Quinnipiac T-shirt to a press conference in support of the Bobcats after they upset

Miami to advance to the Sweet 16 as a 12 seed.

“We look forward to competing with three outstanding programs at Mohegan Sun, beginning with an in-state matchup with UConn,” Quinnipiac coach

Tricia Fabbri said. “Challenging ourselves against top-tier non-conference opponents is a part of the fabric of our program’s success.”

To date, the only regularseason meeting between the

schools was a 117-20 UConn victory in 1998, also in Storrs. It remains the most lopsided win in program history.
